Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself Marathon

Contribute your barbaric yawp to the thirteenth annual “Song of Myself” Marathon! Hosted by Whitman scholar and NYU professor Karen Karbiener.

If you’d like to read, please email [email protected] with your favorite three sections of “Song of Myself” (using the 1891-‘92 edition’s breakdown of 52 sections). Karen will be in touch with you as the event draws closer, to provide the final list of readers. Original interpretations of your passage are encouraged! Last year we had several folks give dramatic or musical interpretations of their passages; others recited from memory or in different languages.

Celebrate Whitman and his poem in your own way—Walt would love that!

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel due to extreme weather conditions.
