Ways to Go Beyond, and Why They Work

In his first workshop in New York since 2012, Rupert Sheldrake will discuss how we can learn to reconnect with the more-than-human world around us and integrate scientific understanding with direct intuitive experience. He will summarize scientific evidence that shows our minds are much more extensive than our brains and can stretch out to affect people on the other side of the world, and even reach out into the sky.

He will show how his hypothesis of morphic resonance enables us to understand rituals and mantras afresh, and provides a new interpretation of memory and the survival of bodily death. This changes the way we think about our deaths and those of our loved ones.

He will also explore how the practice of gratitude can make us happier and more generous, and how singing and chanting can give more joy in our lives and enhance a sense of community. He will discuss the recent revival of pilgrimage and the nature of holy places.

This workshop will include practices, discussions, and time for questions and answers with Rupert Sheldrake.

Rupert Sheldrake

Rupert Sheldrake, PhD, is a biologist and author of more than 85 scientific papers and 12 books, including Science and Spiritual Practices, to be published in August 2018. He was a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge University, a Frank Knox Fellow at Harvard, and a Research Fellow of the Royal Society. From 1974-1985, he was Principal Plant Physiologist and then Consultant Plant Physiologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, near Hyderabad, India. From 2005-2010 he was Director of the Perrott-Warrick Project, funded by Trinity College, Cambridge, for research on unexplained human abilities. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Petaluma, California, and of Schumacher College in Devon, England. He lives in London.
