We Are La Cocina

Powerful stories. Beautifully evocative visuals. More than 100 recipes for all occasions, from many cultures. Here, in La Cocina’s first cookbook, more than 50 successful La Cocina entrepreneurs share their inspiring narratives—and their delicious recipes! More than 200 photographs from award-winning photographer Eric Wolfinger capture the spirit of the people, the mouthwatering food, and the diversity of the immigrant experience. This is the book for cooks who love great global recipes and support organizations that make a big difference.

Join us on the second as Caleb Zigas from La Cocina sits down with Raymond Chow from Hot Bread Kitchen Incubates to chat about the book!

Raymond Chow is Program Manager for Hot Bread Kitchen Incubates, a shared commercial kitchen space and business support program for high-growth food enterprises, run by award-winning food business Hot Bread Kitchen operating in East Harlem. Raymond grew up in the food industry working in his parents’ restaurant at the age of 8. He is a graduate of Howard University School of Law and prior to joining HBK was an adult ESL teacher with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia thru Americorps and worked for Eataly USA in various capacities from front of house to back of house.

Caleb Zigas is executive director of La Cocina. Caleb built the original infrastructure for La Cocina’s award-winning incubator program, launched the San Francisco Street Food Festival, advocated for policy change in mobile food vending opportunities in the Bay and has been a part of more than 30 brick and mortar openings. And, while he loves the food component, ultimately this job is about people, about opportunity and about equity, and that’s what drives the work. Come see him in the kitchen.
