To mark his 20th year with the American Symphony Orchestra, Music Director Leon Botstein offers a signature program questioning why some works are regarded as masterpieces, while others are overlooked. Brahms’ beloved Fourth Symphony is performed with two neglected symphonies from the same year: one from another well-known composer, Dvořák, and one from a composer whose fame did not endure.
