World Premiere: It Can Happen Here

A dramatic comedy with songs written and conceived by Judith Sloan

A reference to the Sinclair Lewis novel It Can’t Happen Here, Sloan’s project presents a series of monologues built from interviews with people who once thought “It can’t happen here” including Hurricane Sandy survivors who lost everything in the storm, DACA recipients struggling with current and changing policy, refugees from military dictatorships, second and third generation children of Holocaust survivors, university students and older women who have been victims of sexual assault.  A performance of stories, song and music with a live band honors the depth of these stories and help fine humor in chaos and serves as reminder that just a chaos and hate has taken hold, a practice of compassion, empathy and collaboration can also happen here.
