Writing That Is Not Writing: A Generative Workshop with Adrienne Raphel

A day-long generative workshop led by Adrienne Raphel exploring the writing that surrounds us but rarely gets called writing — résumés, receipts, fabric tags, fitness tracker data, real estate listings, calendar entries.

Working through these informal forms as both subject and constraint, participants write from the unplanned and interstitial: what drugstore receipt is buried at the bottom of a bag? What does a character's fitness tracker reveal over the course of a week? The workshop includes a short scavenger hunt around Fort Greene (ability and weather permitting) to find writing in the world, followed by exercises that explore how unconventional forms can stand alone or fold into larger projects.

All levels welcome. Need-based scholarships covering 50% of tuition are available.
