In You Don’t Look Like a Lawyer: Black Women and Systemic Gendered Racism sociologist and postdoctoral research fellow Tsedale M. Melaku (Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean at the Graduate Center, City University of New York) shares the narratives of black female lawyers and their experiences around the gendered racism that is embedded within institutional practices and highlights the subtle mechanisms elite law firms use to perpetuate and maintain a dominant white male system.

Dr. Melaku will be joined in conversation by Erica Chito Childs, Chair and Professor of Sociology at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center and author of Navigating Interracial Borders: Black-White Couples and Their Social Worlds and Fade to Black and White: Interracial Images in Popular Culture.
