CLACLS: The Border Is Everywhere: The Crisis of the Immigration Enforcement Regime

Confirmed speakers include Nina Glick Schiller, Laura Briggs, Naomi Pak, Joseph Heyman, NYC Councilmember Francisco Moya, Jayne Mooney, David Brotherton, Ellen Moodie, and many other scholars, activists, and lawyers. The conference will also showcase CUNY scholarship in action.

The border is everywhere intentionally signals the encroachment of immigration control and boundary making across multiple spaces of civic life. The two-day conference will examine the unfolding human rights violations suffered by immigrants seeking asylum and those seeking the opportunity to build and maintain their lives in the United States. Since 2014, immigration enforcement agencies have steadily increased the use of draconian measures to exacerbate the politically charged ‘border crisis’ as people from Latin America, the Caribbean, and other countries seek to enter the United States.

This conference aims to bridge the gaps between academia, policy and street level organizing through the linking up of scholars, students, policy makers and organizers. Experts invited will include lawyers, advocates, and scholars that are expert on the laws and human rights conventions that govern immigration in the United States.
