Parisian Dreams and Madness Featuring Soprano Molly Netter

PROGRAM Suite in D minor from “Pieces pour coucher le roy” by Marin Marais Medée by Louis-Nicolas Clérambault Dream of Ulysses by Jacquet de la Guerre “L’Espagnole” from “Les Nations” by François Couperin

PARISIAN DREAMS AND MADNESS Two major classic French works for soprano and “symphonie” are the anchors for this musical flight of fancy. Elisabeth Jaquet de la Guerre was a child prodigy who performed for Louis XIV at the age of five, and the first woman in France to compose an opera. Her “Dream of Ulysses” depicts the great hero’s nightmare on his journey back from the Trojan wars, while Nicholas Clérambault’s “Medée” gives full voice to the grief of her betrayal and murderous rage. Joining House of Time are viola da gambist, Adam Young, prizewinner at the 2018 Bach-Abel Competition in Germany and once again soprano Molly Netter for these two dramatic masterpieces as well as instrumental gems by François Couperin.
