Tiril Hasselknippe at Magenta Plains

Opening January 12, Magenta Plains presents its first solo exhibition of work by Norwegian artist Tiril Hasselknippe entitled Braut.

The exhibition is composed of two separate large-scale sculptures throughout both floors of the gallery. Referencing the Brutalist architecture of the early 20th Century Modernism, the artist works primarily within the mediums of concrete, steel and natural materials.

In this exhibition, Hasselknippe devises solutions to survival-based needs for post-apocalyptic scenarios reflecting unrest in a time of constant crisis. Her sculptures explore the relationships between the sacred and the primitive, natural and artificial and life-giving and humanity’s downfall. With her instruments of survival, she questions our need for the transfer of knowledge about primary building techniques and basic solutions and tools.
