Zoom Book Launch: The Lost Shtetl by Max Gross

Join Max Gross for the launch of his debut  novel, THE SHTETL, followed by a Q&A.

A remarkable debut novel—written with the fearless imagination of Michael Chabon and the piercing humor of Gary Shteyngart—about a small Jewish village in the Polish forest that is so secluded no one knows it exists…until now. Spared by the Holocaust and the Cold War, its residents enjoyed remarkable peace. The town missed out on cars, and electricity, and the internet, and indoor plumbing. But after a marriage dispute spirals out of control, the town is suddenly rediscovered and comes crashing into the 21st Century.

Writing with great humor, and a unique voice that holds a lot of heart while satirizing society, the author explores the seductions and disappointments of living in the modern world; the compromises and trade-offs necessary; and the fables that are erased.

Max Gross, the son of two writers, grew up in Brooklyn Heights and attended Dartmouth College. As a journalist, he worked for The Forward and The Post. He is currently the Editor in Chief of the real estate publication Commercial Observer.
