Last year more than 63,000 children immigrated to the United States. Many were unaccompanied, seeking refuge from abuse and maltreatment. And many face a complex system on their own. Lenni Benson, founder of Safe Passage Project, which provides legal assistance for unaccompanied minors, is joined in conversation with Isabel Martinez, a sociologist whose research has focused on unaccompanied Mexican immigrant minors in New York City. They will discuss their work as well as their family immigration stories, which give them both a personal connection to the issue.
This event is free and seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open at 6pm. Continue the conversation over dinner and drinks! Russ & Daughters Cafe welcomes Tenement Talks visitors. Those with proof of purchase of a book will receive a 10% discount that evening only.
