Feminist icon Gloria Steinem and friends present a celebration honoring feminist Christian abortion provider Dr. Willie Parker with a reading from the play Spare Rib (New Yorker profile) by Winter Miller.
Co-sponsored by the Society for Ethical Culture, with the support of New Georges, the June 16th event will pay tribute to Dr. Parker’s work in underserved Southern communities (as described in his recent New York Times essay), and will raise funds to aid Mississippi and Alabama abortion clinics under siege, as well as women who cannot cover the costs of obtaining an abortion.
Tickets will be on sale in the coming week at wintermiller.com with general admission seating available for $25 if purchased before June 8th, and VIP tickets including a meet-and-greet, for $100. Free tickets will be offered to abortion clinic workers and volunteers, as well as to women who have had an abortion. The cast and director of the Spare Rib reading will be announced at a later date.
