You don’t need to go far to find a castle in the city. Flanking an old gateway in the Brooklyn Navy Yard sits a bona fide stone castle, turrets and all. Inside the arched doorway happens to be one of the best bars in the City. Walk out the back door and into a lush garden you’ll immediately wish you had discovered sooner. Take a deep breath. There is no rush. It’s a perfect evening in late summer, and your meal is about to begin.
Sign in by applying henna to your palms for good luck. Grab a bespoke bourbon cocktail (or two) in celebration of #nationalbourbonmonth, and enjoy it because it’s Wednesday and the week is halfway done. Vibe with the darbukah drum beats and Sephardic tunes during cocktail hour, and then take a seat at the communal tables while co-hosts Shelley (Our Name Is Farm) and Danya (The Ish) introduce the evening’s programming.
The theme of the dinner is origins – where the ingredients come from (the makers), where the cuisine comes from (the history), and where the guests come from (the community). Our evening will be spent learning from the shared stories, the experience and from one another.
Enjoy a traditional three course menu with a delicious surprise or two, and, in the spirit of Jewish mothers everywhere, we won’t let you leave emptyhanded. We’ll be mixing some non-alcoholic beverages in pitchers for the tables, and the King’s County Distillery bar is open for business throughout the evening.
Finish the night off with some sweet Moroccan mint tea and even sweeter cookies, and rest assured that you’ll be going home in great spirits, and very full. We are excited to share our traditions with you, and we hope you’ll consider joining us for what promises to be a delightfully different kind of dinner experience.
