Historical Lantern-Light Tour of St. Paul’s Chapel & Churchyard

As night falls, explore the final resting place of Revolutionary War heroes, early New York citizens and other characters at the oldest church building in Manhattan. The Historical Lantern-Light Tour of St. Paul’s Chapel & Churchyard will let the graves tell the story of the city from colonial times onward.  The 45-minute tours will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 and Friday, October 28, 2016 at 6, 7 and 8 PM.

Highlights include the grave of John Bailey, who made George Washington’s battle sword; Elizabeth Franklin, Ben Franklin’s daughter-in-law; and actor George Frederick Cooke, considered the greatest tragedian of his era. In addition, attendees will hear about the New York no longer seen in the churchyard, including the St. Paul’s Chapel Girls’ School and an early firehouse.

St. Paul’s Chapel has recently undergone an extensive restoration, bringing it closer to its original look and reopened in time to celebrate its 250th anniversary on October 30th.

Space is limited to 30 people per tour. Admission is free. RSVP is required. Please arrive fifteen minutes before the start time of scheduled tour.
