Speaking of Science: Darwin in the Genome

Dr. Lynn Helena Caporale, the author of Darwin in the Genome, will discuss with us the survival of genomes through an unbroken chain of living beings across evolutionary timescales, and what we discover through genome research – including facts about evolution, diversity, fitness and medicine. Though Charles Darwin discovered that the “most fitted” survive, he did not know that the source of those vital mutations was the genome.

Dr. Caporale was Associate Director of Columbia University’s Genome Center, a Professor of Biochemistry, and served in leadership roles in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. After postdoctoral positions at NYU Medical Center, Memorial/Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University, she was professor of Biochemistry at Georgetown University Medical Center. She founded the Life Science Entrepreneurship at Kean University.
