During Barack Obama’s presidency, the Black Lives Matter movement emerged while, at the same time, the intensification of resentment toward “the other” echoed in the speeches of Donald Trump and others. The months immediately following the end of Obama’s administration is an important time to explore what his presidency has meant for the politics of race in this country.

This Public Voices, a discussion among panelists Michael Eric Dyson (author, The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America), Dr. Julianne Malveaux, (author, Are We Better Off? Race, Obama and Public Policy), and Deva Woodly (The New School) moderated by Frederick C. Harris (Columbia University), addresses the Obama presidency, race, and politics in this country in light of how charged the atmosphere has become with recent egregious events.
