Drunk Science Presents: Memory

This show is part of braiNY, a series of public lectures about the brain, and Brain Awareness Week, the global campaign to promote awareness of progress and benefits of brain research.

Drunk Science is an event hosted by comedians Joanna Rothkopf (staff writer at Jezebel), Shannon Odell (neuroscience PhD candidate at Weill Cornell) and Jordan Mendoza (once was pre-med). In each show, three intoxicated comedians compete to present the best scientific dissertation to a panel of real scientists.

Fumi Abe
Fumi Abe is a Japanese-American stand-up comedian based in New York City by way of Columbus, Ohio. His comedy has been featured on Rooftop Comedy, MTV Decoded, and Seriously.TV. Drawing inspiration from his experience growing up in the Midwest as an immigrant, Fumi slings jokes about family, being a millennial, his white girlfriend, and everything else in between. In 2017, Fumi was selected as a semi-finalist at the Stand Up NBC competition. He also placed 2nd out of 60 comedians in the 2017 Devil Cup Comedy Competition. In addition, he has performed at various comedy festivals across the country such as Hell Yes Fest, Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, and in January he’ll be at SF Sketchfest. Fumi is also a co-producer of Nothing Important!, a monthly comedy show in Brooklyn that was recently featured on Time Out New York as “One of The Best Comedy Shows in NYC”.

Emmy Blotnick
Emmy Blotnick is a comedian and writer based in New York. Her work has appeared on Comedy Central, VH1, MTV and others. She has recently appeared in Comedy Central’s “Comedians Crashing Couches”, TruTV’s “Friends Of The People”, a commercial for Intel, and three episodes of SELF Magazine’s series “Girl vs. Sweat”. She co-hosts a fun monthly show with Matt Koff at Pacific Standard in Brooklyn.

Vishnu “Deepu” Murty
 Vishnu “Deepu” Murty is an assistant professor of psychology at Temple University. He is the primary investigator of the Adaptive Memory Laboratory, which studies how the brain tailors episodic memories to best achieve future goals. His work combines novel behavioral studies with functional neuroimaging to investigate memory and decision making in healthy adults, adolescents, and individuals with psychosis.
