The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) presents “From American to Enemy: Japanese Internment, Racism, and Lessons for Today,” with featured speakers Mitsue Saladar and Madeleine Sugimoto, Japanese Americans who were forced into internment camps in 1942. From 1942-1946, the United States military imprisoned 120,000 people of Japanese heritage; two-thirds of the interned were American citizens. About 60,000 of these “enemies” were children.
