American Classic Orchestra, New York’s leading period instrument orchestra, returns to Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center for another exciting concert. Joined by superb violinist Krista Bennion Feeney, American Classical Orchestra is pleased to present its final concert of its 32nd season: Italian Masters.

Italian music of the Classical Era perpetuated a long tradition of virtuosity in stringed instruments. By the beginning of the 19th century, Italian violins, violinist-composers, and the violin repertoire had advanced to levels of flamboyance unrivaled anywhere else in Europe. American Classical Orchestra’s Founder and Artistic Director Thomas Crawford leads the period orchestra through a survey of early Italian music, with pieces including Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Overture to the Barber of Seville, Clementi’s Symphony No. 4, and Paganini’s ‘La Campanella’ from Concerto No. 2. The Orchestra will also be playing Nardini’s Violin Concerto, which was once a staple in the repertoire for all the great violinists, but is rarely ever played today. With this piece, Krista Bennion Feeney will perform on gut strings such as Nardini knew, allowing the concerto to have sweetness that may have been lost in the late twentieth century.
