Out There a Minute with Marshall Allen (2017) is a short documentary, directed by Philadelphia filmmaker Patrick Ganley. It features Marshall Allen, a member of Sun Ra’s Arkestra since 1959, who is the present leader of the group. It combines Allen’s introspective words about music, life, and philosophy with contemporary footage of the sanctuary from which the Arkestra has worked for the last five decades. The film screening will be followed by a discussion with director Patrick Ganley, who spent years immersed in Sun Ra’s world during the making of this film.
