The New Yorker Festival: Barry Blitt Talks with Françoise Mouly

Barry Blitt has contributed illustrations and more than eighty covers to The New Yorker, including “Deluged,” which was voted cover of the year by the American Society of Magazine Editors in 2006. His work has also appeared in Vanity Fair, Time, Rolling Stone, and The Atlantic, and he illustrated Frank Rich’s weekly column in the Times. He has been honored with exhibitions and awards from the Society of Illustrators, Print, and American Illustration, and is a member of the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame. His retrospective book, “Blitt,” will be published in October, 2017.

Françoise Mouly has been the art editor at The New Yorker since 1993, where she has overseen more than a thousand covers. Many of these have been named cover of the year by the American Society of Magazine Editors. She received France’s Légion of Honneur, and has been nominated four times for the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. She is the editorial director and publisher of TOON Books, and earlier this year she began publishing “RESIST!,” a collection of comics and graphics primarily by women, co-edited with her daughter, Nadja Spiegelman.
