Theology and the War on Terror

Could you forgive a terrorist?

Join counter-terrorism advisor, community worker, and philosopher of religion Prof. Gwen Griffith-Dickson, for a discussion of her riveting new novel Bleedback. Griffith-Dickson—a visiting professor at King’s College London and Director of the Lokahi Foundation—is a leading figure in the British counterterrorism scene. She has worked with Muslim communities and governments, and prevented a terrorist attack through one of her projects.

All those who register for this free event will receive a free copy of Bleedback, a novel that immerses the reader in the conflicts of the war on terror and the many questions it raises for our time. What is it that makes people turn to terrorism? What really drives the war on terror—global politics or the sordid business of profit-making? Should spiritual leaders get involved in politics for the sake of peacemaking, or should religion be kept out of politics and security? Can terrorists have a change of heart—and do they merit forgiveness if they do?

Patrick Hornbeck, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Theology at Fordham University, will discuss these questions and more with Griffith-Dickson at the Lincoln Centre Campus.
