Green-Wood’s serene landscape is the final resting place for perpetrators and victims of headline-grabbing crimes and disasters spanning the last century and a half. This trolley ride through the cemetery uncovers their terrifying and tragic tales. Visitors will hear of the SS Morro Castle disaster of 1930 and possible murder of her captain; the sinking of the steamship Arctic in 1854; the 1918 Malbone Street train crash (along today’s B and Q train routes) that killed 97 people; a suicide on the grave of a beloved wife; Titanic survivors; the 1876 Brooklyn Theatre fire (near today’s Cadman Plaza) that killed 278 people; a couple who mysteriously drowned together; among other captivating tales.
