Secrets of the Deep: Dreams on Film
A third of our lives is spent sleeping. Whether understood as a form of foreknowledge, a portal to a metaphysical plane, or a domain of psychological de-sublimation, dreams have rightly been the subject of spiritual speculation, scientific research, and artistic endeavor since the dawning of humankind. Giving dreams their pride of place among human obsessions, SECRETS of the Deep: DREAMS ON FILM will exhibit 5 to 10 minute films about dreaming, featuring dreams, or films that are dream-like selected from among 415 international submissions.
All ticket revenue from this event will go to support the historic Gene Frankel Theatre. The program features films by Douglas Hart (Jesus and Mary Chain), vocalist and multi-instrumentalist She Rocola, Joe Whitney* (The Flaming Stars), Kirsty Allison* (Cold Lips Magazine), Scottish rocker Gil de Ray* (Vagrant Lovers), British-born L.A.-based filmmaker and twice Emmy Award nominated actor Emily O’Brien* (The Young and the Restless), and British-born and NYC based Stephen Rutterford* of Brooklyn-Brothers ad agency. “It will be a British invasion of sorts and, with all of the films, definitely the best fest yet.” The program’s geography also includes Sao Paulo-based Vincius Santo, Oklahoma-born and Austin-based Liz Tabish*, Russian animator Olga Guse of Berlin, and record producer (Strokes, Regina Spektor) Gordon Raphael, also now residing in Berlin. The festival will also include Wengrofsky’s film Marti Domination in the Life of Dreams, a surrealistic documentary about Marti Domination (of Matthew Barney’s Cremaster I).
