Monteverdi & Bartok at Hungarian House NYC
On Sunday, July 1 at 5pm, singers Deborah Carmichael, Kinga Cserjési, Marisa Michelson, and Sara Serpa perform music by Monteverdi and Bartok. Members of the Choral Society of the Hamptons will make a special guest appearance.
This unique program weaves together works by the 17th century Italian and the 20th century Hungarian, demonstrating the common ground of the musical worlds of these two revolutionary composers.
All four singers practice the Libero Canto approach to singing: a wholistic concept of music-making that emphasizes freedom and authenticity. It was developed by the Hungarian Lajos Szamosi in Budapest in the 1930s, who called it, “the path to free singing” – la via al libero canto.
The performance is at the Hungarian House, 213 East 82nd Street in Manhattan.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $20 at the door.
