Bruce Springsteen and ‘Born to Run,’ with Sotheby’s
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Bruce Springsteen’s working draft of “Born to Run,” in one of the most spectacular private spaces in New York City.
Sotheby’s is selling Bruce Springsteen’s handwritten working draft of “Born To Run” in an online auction that ends June 28. This is a rare chance to see this remarkable document before its sale and learn the story of its creation. You’ll do this in one of New York’s most stunning spaces, an apartment on the 40th floor of the historic Woolworth Building . F.W. Woolworth himself kept his private office on this floor, because he thought it had the best view in Manhattan.
Executive Editor of Pitchfork Mark Richardson joins Amanda Petrusich, author of Do Not Sell At Any Price: The Wild, Obsessive Hunt for the World’s Rarest 78rpm Records , for a conversation about Bruce Springsteen’s creative process, grounding us in the time and place of “Born to Run.”
Following the discussion, there will be a guided viewing of Bruce Springsteen artifacts led by Sotheby’s Head of Books & Manuscripts department Richard Austin, as well as an open-bar reception. We’ll finish the evening in the room where F.W. Woolworth’s office once stood, where we’ll hear an intimate concert of Springsteen songs by special guest musician Kevin Morby —one of the many influenced by Bruce Springsteen. Allow yourself to travel back to the first time you might have heard “Born to Run.” This is an experience true Bruce fans won’t want to miss.
This event is produced in partnership with Sotheby’s Fine Books & Manuscripts Department. To view their current catalog of items up for auction, including items described above, head to the Sotheby’s online auction , open until June 28th, 2018.
