Battle of Brooklyn and Beyond: The Evergreens Military History Tour

Join us for a military history walking tour to commemorate the 242nd anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn (August 27, 1776), the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War to take place after the United States declared its independence. Come explore the Rockaway Footpath, retracing the British flank march that helped decide the outcome of the Battle of Brooklyn. We will also visit the graves of an eyewitness to those events and of a rabble-rousing Son of Liberty who participated in the evacuation of New York during that conflict.

We will also go beyond the American Revolution to visit the graves of those who fought in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, WWI and WWII. Tour guide James Henry will share stories of African-American men who struggled to serve their country and fight for their freedom during the Civil War, as well as chilling tales of the years during both World Wars that German U-boats menaced the shores of New York.

Please note this is a walking tour with moderately hilly terrain; wear sturdy shoes. The tour is not wheelchair-accessible.

Meet at the main gate at 1629 Bushwick Avenue.

The tour will take place weather permitting; if the event is cancelled attendees will be emailed ahead of time and the cancellation will be posted on our website, Eventbrite and Facebook pages.

$5 suggested donation, payable in cash at the event.
