Journalist Jessica Bruder returns to Greenlight for the paperback launch of her book Nomadland, a revelatory work of in-depth narrative journalism about a new American workforce and a shift away from retirement as we know it. Nomadland explores the phenomenon of older, low-income Americans who can no longer afford to retire in the wake of the 2008 recession, and the nomadic labor communities they form. From the beet fields of North Dakota to the National Forest campgrounds of California, Bruder tells a compelling, eye-opening tale of the dark underbelly of the American economy – one that foreshadows the precarious future that may await many more of us.
