Smarter New York City: How City Agencies Innovate is a Columbia University Press book that serves as an innovation roadmap to cities around the world based on specific programs developed within New York City’s agencies. A key question throughout the book is “How can innovation from within city agencies and administrations make for smarter urban systems in cities around the world?” Join book editor André Corrêa d’Almeida and one of the book’s key contributors Jerry Hultin, founder of Global Futures Group (GFG), as they address this question and discuss topics such as the drivers and constraints behind urban innovation.
Smart New York City is designed to help government leaders imagine new possibilities for cities in the United States and around the world, using a series of case studies produced by a multidisciplinary team from nine New York City universities and multiple research institutes. Challenging the usefulness of a tech-centric view of urban innovation, Smarter New York City brings together a multidisciplinary and integrated perspective to imagine new possibilities from within city agencies, with practical lessons for city officials, urban planners, policy makers, civil society, and potential private-sector partners.
