Stoic School of Life: More From Epictetus’ Manual for the Good Life

Join Massimo Pigliucci, the K.D. Irani professor of philosophy at the City College of New York, and other fellow students of Stoicism for a discussion of basic Stoic theory.

Time to continue our study of one of the primary sources of Stoicism: Epictetus’ Enchiridion, a short manual to live life the Stoic way. We will resume from section 34, where the slave-turned-teacher tells us how to deal with pleasures…

The School is inspired by the ancient Greco-Roman schools of philosophy. We will examine the theory and practice of Stoicism as a modern applied philosophy that aids us in navigating a world in some ways just as confusing and uncertain as that of ancient Athens and Rome.
