Brooklyn Public Library has commissioned South African artist William Kentridge to deliver the next Message from the Library lecture. Born in Johannesburg in 1955 to a Jewish family, his parents worked as lawyers, defending victims of apartheid. His work, which ranges from drawing, print making and film animation to sculpture and performing arts, embraces a political art of ambiguity, contradiction and uncertainty.
Message from the Library lectures ask leading cultural figures to reflect on today’s most precarious issues.
Message from the Library is made possible with the generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation
