Walking Tour: Gay and Lesbian Writers and Artists in the East Village

Take this winter’s coolest walking tour with Tompkins Square Library manager Corinne Neary and street photographer Michael Paul.

We’ll visit some of the homes and venues of gay and lesbian writers and artists in the East Village. See where Allen Ginsberg lived from 1977-1996. Visit the building where poet Frank O’Hara wrote poems about St Brigid’s Church while looking across Tompkins Square Park from his window. See where Club 57 once attracted the likes of Keith Haring on St Marks Place, the Pyramid Club, where some of the biggest names in drag got their start, the former home of W.H. Auden, and more.

This free one hour tour meets in front of Tompkins Square Library. Register online, in person, or by phone. In case of inclement weather, please check the tour status by calling the library that day. This tour is part of our second annual East Village Arts Festival.
