For over six years, and for reasons he can’t explain, Matt Green, 37, has been walking every block of every street in New York City–a journey of more than 8,000 miles. The World Before Your Feet (2018) tells the story of one man’s unusual personal quest and the unexpected journey of discovery, humanity, and wonder that ensues.
Over time Matt has amassed an encyclopedia of surprising New York trivia and underground history, informed by his own research and conversations with the amused but supportive New Yorkers he encounters along the way. Director Jeremy Workman accompanies Matt as he walks towards completing his goal through neighborhoods rarely filmed, chronicling the unusual daily routine of an exceptionally curious young man.
Queens Library President and CEO Dennis M. Walcott will interview both Matt Green and Director Jeremy Workman before the program audience.
“Short of walking with Green, a film is an ideal way to share in his knowledge. And after watching The World Before Your Feet, it’s difficult to look at the city the same way.” – Ben Kenigsberg, New York Times, November 20, 2018
