Fernanda Pivano (Genoa 1917 – Milan 2009) was a writer, journalist and translator who contributed to the diffusion of the most significant American writers in Italy, from great icons like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dorothy Parker, William Faulkner, Richard Wright to antimilitarist Ernest Hemingway and Joseph Heller, through the writers of the 1960s Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, Gregory Corso, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and contemporary writers including Erica Jong, Jay McInerney, Bret Easton Ellis, David Foster Wallace, Chuck Palahniuk, and Jonathan Safran Foer. Premio Fernanda Pivano Award continues the scope of bringing American literature to Italy.

Erica Jong is a celebrated poet, novelist & essayist with over 26 published books that have been influential all over the world. Her new book of poetry titled The World Began With Yes is due for publication in the U.S. on April 16th, 2019 by Red Hen Press. Erica’s most popular novel, Fear of Flyingcelebrated its 40th anniversary in 2013. Never out of print, it has sold over 35 million copies in 42 languages including Chinese and Arabic. She is the recipient of several awards including the Fernanda Pivano Prize

Gini Alhadeff was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Italian parents. She is the author of a memoir, The Sun at Midday: Tales of a Mediterranean Family, and of a novel, Dia- ry of a Djinn. She founded and edited two literary quarterlies, Normal, and XXIst Century! in the late 80’s, and has since contributed to many magazines, including the quarterlies Bidoun and The Drawbridge, and more recently to The New York Review of Books.

Francesca Pellas is an Italian publishing professional living in New York. She works for Edizioni Black Coffee, an independent publisher based in Florence specializing in American literature. She is also a translator, and she writes for the Italian daily Il Foglio and the American magazine Words Without Borders.
