Green-Wood is proud to host a special gathering of its popular Death Café series for the Spanish-speaking community in partnership with New York City arts organization ChaShaMa. Participants will share their thoughts on death and dying in a supportive and intimate environment where they can feel comfortable talking about these universal, but rarely discussed, topics.
The Death Café is inspired by centuries-old European salons where people gathered informally to discuss philosophical, political, or scientific ideas. The first Death Café was started by British entrepreneur Jon Underwood in 2010 as a way to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” To date, over 4,400 of these meetings have taken place in 26 countries around the world.
Sunset Park artist and ChaShaMa coordinator Maria D.C. Rivas invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death through drawing, meditation, and safe and open exchanges in Spanish. Light snacks will be provided.
