First Ladies Abigail Adams and Louisa Catherine Adams were political forces in their own right in the 18th and 19th centuries. Join us for a conversation about their colorful journeys, and take a closer look at how they relied upon—and reinvented—their Christian religion to help them navigate tumultuous periods in the American republic.

Sara Georgini, Ph.D., is the author of Household Gods: The Religious Lives of the Adams Family and  series editor for The Papers of John Adams, part of the Adams Papers editorial project based at the Massachusetts Historical Society.

Nicole Mahoney, a former Andrew W. Mellon Predoctoral Fellow in Women’s History at the New-York Historical Society, is a Ph.D. candidate in American History at the University of Maryland, College Park and a fellow at the McNeil Center for Early American Studies.
