Shtisel: Screening and Discussion

A hit Israeli television series about a Haredi family in Jerusalem. Shulem Shtisel is the father of a large family and each of his children has ‘tsuris’—problems. His daughter, Gitti, is secretly dealing with devastating marital issues; his older son, Zvi Aryeh, feels professionally discontent; he is estranged from one daughter who married an Orthodox Jew from a different sect; and his youngest son, and star of the show, Akiva, aspires to be an artist, a profession deemed deeply problematic. A discussion with  Prof. Samuel C. Heilman (Queens College) will follow the screening of two episodes.
