After nearly 40 years of engagement, a “great decoupling” is underway between the United States and China. A focus on strategic competition is undermining bilateral links built up over decades in trade, investment, education, and other areas. If the current trend toward superpower estrangement is carried to its conclusion, it could tear the world apart. But which side — the U.S. or China — is better placed to prevail as trade and tech wars rage? Is China set on an unstoppable course toward technological dominance?
The event will include a panel of eminent experts on technology and U.S.-China relations as well as an Oxford-style Great Debate featuring top columnists, editors, and reporters from the Financial Times and Nikkei Asian Review.
Organized by Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations in collaboration with the Financial Times, Nikkei Asian Review, and Tech Scroll Asia, a weekly email on all things technology in Asia.
