Frank Ormsby, Ireland Chair of Poetry, will read from his newest collection, The Rain Barrel and will join in a launch and musical celebration of Ciaran Carson’s remarkable posthumous volume Still Life, with Paul Muldoon, Nick Laird, and other guests.
Poet and editor Frank Ormsby grew up in rural Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. He was educated at St. Michael’s College and Queen’s University in Belfast and influenced by Seamus Heaney. His poetry collections include The Darkness of Snow (2017), Goat’s Milk: New and Selected Poems (2015), Fireflies (2009), The Ghost Train (1995), A Northern Spring (1986), and A Store of Candles (1977).
Ciaran Carson was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, into an Irish-speaking family, poet Ciarán Carson attended Queen’s University, Belfast. He held the position of traditional arts officer of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland from 1975 to 1998 and was appointed director of the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at Queen’s University in 2003. Ciaran passed away in 2019.
