Smalls Talk, with Jonathan Michel

Miss live music? Smalls Jazz Club and Gush are bringing you the next best thing: intimate listening parties and conversations about jazz with the artists who create it.

Led by NYC bassist and longtime Smalls resident Jonathan Michel, each of these biweekly events will focus on a past performance from the SmallsLIVE Foundation Archive. Participants will be sent a link to that week’s recording from the archives, plus a playlist of tracks that help place the performance in the context of jazz history and the pantheon of great jazz artists.

During the event, Jonathan and that week’s special guest will discuss the performance, the tracks on that week’s playlist, and their own experiences playing at Smalls and elsewhere. This is designed to be an interactive event, so each session is limited to 20 guests in order to ensure a sense of intimacy and make sure that everyone can participate in the conversation.

Part jazz history course and part opportunity to talk about jazz with other enthusiasts and the artists who create New York’s vibrant jazz culture, Smalls Talk with Jonathan Michel is exactly what you need right now.

Each session will run approximately 90 minutes, and will include conversation, education, and listening to select moments from that week’s performance and highlighted tracks.  A Zoom link will be sent to all participants shortly before each session.
