The September Curator’s Corners include:
“Curator’s Corner: The Labor Service Corps at the 1934 Nazi Party Rally” on Wednesday, September 2 at 11:00 AM. Our Museum and Programming Director, Dr. Thorin Tritter, will talk about a photograph in our gallery of the Reich’s Labor Service Corps at the Nazi Party Rally of 1934, highlighting the power of the annual rallies and the ways Nazi Germany sought to get around limitations imposed by the Versailles Treaty.
“Curator’s Corner: An Antisemitic Beer Stein” on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 AM. Dr. Thorin Tritter, HMTC’s Museum and Programming Director, will explore an antisemitic beer stein, made in the 1890s, that stands in our opening gallery, deciphering its images and discussing their meaning.
“Curator’s Corner: A Child’s Drawing from Theresienstadt” on Wednesday, September 16 at 11:00 AM. Thorin Tritter will focus this program on a piece of artwork created by Marietta Gruenbaum, one of 15,000 children who passed through the ghetto and camp in Theresienstadt, and discuss some of the experiences of children during the Holocaust.
“Curator’s Corner: TB Tests in DP Camps” on Wednesday, September 23 at 11:00 AM. In the portion of HMTC’s exhibition that covers the Displaced Persons camps, there is a small x-ray of a Holocaust Survivor. Join Dr. Thorin Tritter for a discussion of this x-ray, the Tuberculosis test that it was a part of, and the concerns about highly contagious diseases in post-war Europe.
“Curator’s Corner: A Wedding Dress from Pre-War Europe” on Wednesday, September 30 at 11:00 AM. Join Thorin Tritter, HMTC’s Museum and Programming Director, for a discussion about a wedding dress that was carried from the Netherlands, in the wake of the Nazi invasion, across the Atlantic to New York and offers a window into the pre-war life of Jews in Amsterdam
