David Prize 101—Dream Big New York—Panel

53rd Street is teaming up with The David Prize to celebrate the individuals who are creating a better, brighter city. New York City is the best city in the world. And we know New Yorkers are working to make it even better. The David Prize is giving $200,000 dollars to five visionary New Yorkers to dream big and build their big, bold ideas. Do you have what New York City needs? Join our exclusive program series, where we will showcase past winners and provide information for individuals to submit their larger-than-life ideas to improve New York City for generations to come. Successful submissions are ultimately judged by The David Prize selection committee.

This exciting program will introduce The David Prize and the process to submit ideas for consideration. This program also features an exclusive panel of past David Prize winners, moderated by the foundation’s own Head of Marketing and Partnerships. You do not want to miss this opportunity!

To join this event in-person | Please be sure to register for an In-Person Ticket. Doors will open 30 minutes before the program begins. For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. Priority will be given to those who have registered in advance, but registration does not guarantee admission. About the Participants:

Talia Scott (Legally Blk Fund)

As the child of an undocumented immigrant and a product of the NYC public school system, Talia grew up with an understanding of how inaccessible the law could be for minorities and immigrants. It wasn’t until she met Michelle Obama when she realized she not only could learn law, but be at the table. While applying to law school herself, Talia started the Legally BLK Fund, a non-profit to bridge the gap for high potential Black women who want to go to law school but don’t know how to get there. Legally BLK Fund cuts through common barriers that disproportionately impact women of color — lack of mentors in the field, limited knowledge on the process, financial costs to access quality tutoring and admissions consultants, and a community of others going through it. Talia aims to build Legally BLK Fund beyond the $40K in scholarships she’s already provided; she aspires to change the law by changing who gets to shape it.

Dianna Rose (Essential Kitchen Co.)

Dianna Rose is a Community Cultivator from Southeast Queens with a deep commitment to redesigning the Circular Economy within her community and its overall health. Over the past 15 years, she has launched companies that reconnect people to the planet — from a M/WBE certified zero-waste catering company, to a platform for sustainability content, to the first community farmers market in the Laurelton area. The Sovereign Markets, launched during the height of the 2020 Pandemic at the Laurelton Long Island Railroad Station, supports local food businesses and artisans. While some concessionaires were able to successfully scale their businesses to brick-and-mortar stores, kitchen space remained too distant and expensive for most local food entrepreneurs. So, in 2021 Dianna opened the Essential Kitchen Co — the first of its kind, as a solution to the opportunity gap historically disinvested communities face due to lack of infrastructure, and today she’s on a mission to establish Southeast Queens as a food oasis and high-end concessionaire market. Dianna is working towards a more robust food ecosystem and increased economic success for local food entrepreneurs.
