The Connie Converse Universe
Before Bob Dylan and Joan Baez became icons of the 1960s folk scene, Connie Converse was quietly sharing her deeply personal songs with friends in the early 1950s. When she vanished mysteriously in August 1974, her music was almost forgotten—until 2009, when her original 1954 demos were rediscovered on Spotify, capturing the hearts of a new audience. Now, Los Angeles singer-songwriter Hope Levy brings Converse’s haunting compositions back to life in The Connie Converse Universe, the “Outstanding Musical” winner at the San Diego International Fringe Festival, which now comes to New York City, inviting audiences to explore the rich, enigmatic world of this overlooked musical pioneer.
