2023 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition

The Guitar Foundation of America will hold the 2023 GFA International Convention and Competition from June 19-24, 2023 at Manhattan School of Music, New York, NY. This annual event brings together approximately 600 classical guitar masters and enthusiasts from all over the world, including some of the most elite performers of classical guitar.

Marcin Dylla and Lovro Peretic

GFA prize winners Marcin Dylla and Lovro Peretic present a concert of solo works arranged and composed for the guitar demonstrating the variety and depth of the instrument’s repertoire. Works by Piazzolla, Weiss, Scarlatti and more.

Love Letter to New York: Cavatina Duo; TY Zhang, and Jason Vieaux

TY Zhang, Jason Vieaux and Cavatina Duo present a tribute concert to one of the world’s greatest cultural centers, New York City, for the 50th Anniversary of the GFA convention. Music to include works by David Leisner, Pat Metheny, Astor Piazzolla and more.

Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Martha Masters, and Judicaël Perroy

GFA prize winners Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Martha Masters and Judicaël Perroy present a concert of solo guitar repertoire that spans several centuries of the instrument’s repertoire. The program features contemporary works arranged by the guitarists, music by notable female composers and masterworks of the classical guitar repertoire.

Kaki King & Jérémy Jouve with Mathias Duplessy

In MODERN YESTERDAYS, Kaki King presents a new guitar-driven, technicolor projection mapping show, in tandem with a cutting edge approach to storytelling and musical performance. Joined by great tabla player, Amit Kavthekar, guitarist Jérémy Jouve and multi-instrumentalist Mathias Duplessy play together in an effort to weave a bridge between classical music and world music.

GFA prize winners Gabriel Bianco, Margarita Escarpa and Fabio Zanon present a concert of classical guitar masterpieces . The program features works by Torroba, José, Villa-Lobos and more.

Award winning guitarist and pedagogue Sharon Isbin performs a concert of classical guitar works which display variety and breadth of the instruments repertoire.

Antigoni Goni & SoloDuo 

SoloDuo (Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli) present a concert of pieces arranged and composed for two guitars. The duo will perform works by Beethoven, Piazzolla and Debussy.  Antigoni Goni begins her program with a selection of solo works by famous Spanish guitarists and composers, Francisco Tárrega and Miguel Llobet. Following the solo performances, The Volterra Project Guitar Trio (Antigoni Goni, Luca Isolani & Maarten Vandenbemden), perform works arranged for three guitars by Maurice Ravel and Enrique Granados.
