Architecture Across Cultures: The Chinese Vanguard
The 2008 Beijing Olympics were a seminal moment for Chinese culture on the global stage, one that featured landmarks by Western architects as emblems of contemporary design and served as an apex of Western influence and experimentation in China. The decade that followed has seen a presidential pronouncement against “weird” art and architecture, a growing sophistication in the Chinese real estate market, and the emergence of young Chinese architects with international practices shaped by the legacy of Western architecture in their country. This panel brings together two acclaimed Chinese architects to discuss their work, their practices, and the lasting impact of cross-cultural architecture.
Speakers:
Yichen Lu, Assoc. AIA, Principal, Studio Link-Arc
Tiantian Xu, Principal, DnA_Design and Architecture
Moderator:
Clifford A. Pearson, Contributing Editor and former Deputy Editor, Architectural Record; Former Director, USC School of Architecture’s American Academy in China
