Artist Event & Book Talk: David Carrier, Joachim Pissarro and Barry Schwabsky

A discussion on the book Wild Art with authors David Carrier and Joachim Pissarro.

David Carrier is Champney Family Professor Emeritus, Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Institute of Art. Getty Scholar, Clark Fellow and Senior Fellow, National Humanities Center. Publications prior to Wild Art include books on Nicolas Poussin, Sean Scully, and Charles Baudelaire. Carrier and Pissarro will write a follow-up version of E. H. Gombrich’s The Story of Art, from 1950, taking the 21st century into account. 

Joachim Pissarro is Bershad Professor of Art History and Director of the Hunter College Galleries, CUNY. Former curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture at MoMA in New York. Pissarro has also published Individualism and Inter-Subjectivity in Modernism: Two Case Studies of Artistic Interchanges – Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne; Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, and the essay, Joseph Beuys: Set Between One and All.

Barry Schwabsky, an art critic for The Nation, and co-editor of international reviews for Artforum. His most recent book is Words for Art: Criticism, History, Theory, Practice (Sternberg Press, Berlin, 2013) and he has contributed to books and catalogues on artists such as Henri Matisse, Alighiero Boetti, Jessica Stockholder, and Gillian Wearing. Forthcoming this year is his third collection of poetry, Trembling Hand Equilibrium, and a collection of critical writings on poetry, both from Black Square Editions, NY.
