Join Photographer Helene Schmitz for an afternoon presentation and conversation about her work and her process.
A major concern in Helene Schmitz’s practice is how the anthropocentric paradigm has shaped, ordered and exploited the natural world and its resources. Her most recent projects explore large-scale disturbances caused by humans on landscapes. Come learn first-hand about a selection of work from her series Thinking Like a Mountain (2018) and Kudzu Project (2013).
Helene Schmitz says –
”In Thinking Like a Mountain, I wanted to portray the violent transformation of landscapes in the northern regions of Sweden and Iceland in our time. In my life, I have experienced that the concept of wilderness, and virgin land untouched by humans, has disintegrated. My photographs can be seen as a meditation on man’s relation to nature – a global, highly industrialised and transformation of landscapes.”
