Authors’ Talk: Victoria Johnson and Elizabeth Barlow Rogers

Join Hunter Professor Victoria Johnson and conservationist Elizabeth Barlow Rogers for a conversation celebrating NYC’s love story with its parks and botanical gardens.
Victoria Johnson is Associate Professor of Urban Policy and Planning at Hunter College. Her new book, American Eden: David Hosack, Botany, and Medicine in the Garden of the Early Republic, tells the story of David Hosack, who founded the first botanical garden in the nation, amassing a spectacular collection of medicinal, agricultural, and ornamental plants, trained the next generation of American doctors and naturalists and conducted some of the first pharmaceutical research in the United States.
Elizabeth Barlow Rogers is the author of eight previous books, including Green Metropolis. She was instrumental in founding the Central Park Conservancy, a public-private partnership supporting the restoration and management of the park.
SAVING CENTRAL PARK is “The inspiring story of how one woman, in the face of considerable resistance, created a partnership to privately augment the funding and management of Manhattan’s beloved park.” —The New York Times Book Review
