Brian Lehrer with Karan Mahajan: Notes From the Reading Life
A master interviewer and morning radio mainstay picks up the microphone to share recommendations and memories of the books that have inspired him throughout his career.
Brian Lehrer is the award-winning host of The Brian Lehrer Show, WNYC Radio’s daily call-in program, covering politics and life, locally and globally. Featuring guests from Barack Obama to Mitch McConnell and Margaret Atwood to Yogi Berra, The Brian Lehrer Show was recognized with a 2007 George Foster Peabody Award for “Radio That Builds Community Rather Than Divides.”
Lehrer will speak with National Book Award Finalist Karan Mahajan, whose novel The Association of Small Bombs was named one of the “10 Best Books of 2016” by The New York Times. An assistant professor at Brown University, he is currently a fellow at the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at The New York Public Library.
Notes from the Reading Life is a discussion series that features some of our most well-known and well-read neighbors discussing the books that excite and inspire them—the books that guided them through their careers (in art, entertainment, comedy, and more), helping to make them into who they are today. Presented in partnership by the National Book Foundation and The New York Public Library, Notes from the Reading Life will take place throughout June at three library branches in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. At each event, the featured speaker will be in conversation with an acclaimed author or lover of literature, celebrating the formative role of books in both of their lives.
